so, i’m sure some of you are very familiar with this thing called temper tantrums. as for me, i heard about it and how bad it can get, but never really had too much of a problem with nikka throwing them until this past week. since birth, nikka has been very independent. she likes to do things on her own and she thinks she’s grown. well this particular incident below started because she wanted a popsicle and had trouble opening the package, so she asked me to open it for her. when i opened the package up, she “changed” her mind and started to scream because she wanted to open it herself. She said, ” kids can do this, not adults!” and cried hysterically. there was no calming her down at this point and i didn’t want her to think that her tantrum was appropriate, so i told her i was putting the popsicle away until she calmed down. this led to an additional 5-10 minutes of hollering with a little bit of screeching for effect, which you’ll see here…
the incident faded out as she ended up crying herself to sleep. the next morning, she woke up in a good mood and i decided to revisit the “yellow popsicle” dilemma with her and asked her if she was ready to apologize for her behavior. she said “i’m sorry mommy.” I asked her why she was sorry and she said, “i’m sorry for being mad about the popsicle.” I was in such awe because my little baby remembered the incident, and knew what she had done wrong. I gave her a big hug and kiss and asked if we could be friends again, and she said yes with no hesitation. what a mature little angel!
