so today was nikka’s first tap/ballet class. she seemed pretty nervous about going, mostly because she knew she would not have us in the room for support. we waited anxiously in the lobby while the other class finished up. finally it was time for class.
we headed up the stairs and met nikka’s dance teacher “miss leah” for the first time. she quickly took attendance and asked all the parents to put on the girls’ tap shoes. to warm the girls up, she gave them all a little magic sticker which she placed on their right shoe (genius idea, because nikka LOVES stickers). she then asked all the little girls into the studio and the fun began. nikka had her little shy/uncomfortable closed mouth look on her face, but she proceeded anyway since noone else seemed to mind. she warmed up just in time to stomp her little foot in the purple hula hoop miss leah had put out. the girls then stood at the bar and started shuffles. i was so impressed with how nikka quickly caught on and followed directions.
the little girls then filed out to put on their ballet shoes, and nikka couldn’t wait to get back into class. she quickly put on her shoes and walked right in. she enjoyed the last part of class with a ballet bear in hand skipping and jumping and doing the robot (nice touch). once class was over they were promised a little toy from miss leah for the great job they did- nikka received an elephant. after class, nikka did not want to leave and i think she actually really enjoyed the class and will be back again for more. what a brave little girl…excuse me, ballerina girl.
